BRAND HISTORY

Rotary Watches Ltd. was founded by Moise Dreyfuss in 1895 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. With a focus on the principles of quality, design, and value, the company was dedicated to creating beautiful watches with timeless elegance.

By the 1920s, Rotary Watches had established a strong presence in the British watch market. Moise’s son, Georges Dreyfuss, took the initiative to expand the business into the United Kingdom, ensuring that Rotary Watches were available in British jewelers across the land. This strategic move solidified Rotary’s presence and reputation within the UK.

Rotary Watches became known for their innovative designs and were one of the first companies to introduce shockproof watches, which added to their appeal for consumers who needed durable yet stylish timepieces. Another innovation from Rotary was the introduction of the first waterproof watch, the 'Rotary Aqua'.

During the Second World War, Rotary became the official watch supplier for the British Army. This contract significantly enhanced Rotary's reputation for precision and reliability, as their watches served soldiers in various conditions during the war.

The post-war era saw Rotary Watches continuing to flourish. They became renowned for their automatic watches and for introducing innovative features to their timepieces. In the 1960s, Rotary introduced the shockproof Diashock, capitalizing on the era’s demand for robust watches.

During the Quartz Crisis in the 1970s and 1980s, which saw the traditional Swiss watch industry challenged by the influx of cheaper, mass-produced quartz watches, Rotary made a strategic decision to embrace the quartz movement. This allowed them to continue offering precise, reliable watches at competitive prices, and they managed to maintain their position in the market despite the overall turbulence in the industry.

In the 2000s, Rotary continued to expand its range, offering both quartz and mechanical watches, and launched new collections that honored its heritage while incorporating modern design elements. In 2005, Rotary released the Editions line, which was a separate range featuring more contemporary designs.

Rotary Watches have celebrated over 120 years in the watchmaking industry and have received several accolades, including the status of a superbrand in the UK, which is a testament to their longstanding presence and reputation in the country.
