Sale price$1,495.00

There's A Snake In My Boot!.. Or, I mean, Watch...

DESCRIPTION

1970's Advert Poster from user, Bob Bruno, on MyBulova.com - https://www.mybulova.com/watches/1974-accutron-date-day-cd-5140?page=0

Produced for only two years in 1973 and 1974. This model is highly sought after by Bulova collectors for its unique design that is so evocative of the early 1970's.

Although the watch was produced not using real wood, Bulova instead used a faux wood with a rosewood texture since a lot of watches with wood would break down over time. Even then, it's incredibly difficult to find a Woody in pristine condition since the faux wood does peel off with time.

The dial on this watch has also patinated into a beautiful bubble galaxy pattern that I have not seen before on this model.

Here's a picture of the watch in a vintage bulova catalog.

BRAND HISTORY

The Bulova Watch Company was established in 1875 by Joseph Bulova in New York City. The company initially manufactured fine jewelry, but in 1911, it began producing Pocket Watches Like the "American Maid" and ladies wristwatches with the "Rubaiyat" which were popular at the time.

In 1920, Bulova introduced the first complete range of men's wristwatches in the United States. This was a prominent milestone as wristwatches were gaining popularity and replacing pocket watches.

In the years that followed, Bulova became a well-known brand and a leader in watchmaking, introducing many innovative technologies to the industry.

From Bulova's TV Commercial in 1926, The first television commercial in history.

For example, in 1927, Bulova introduced the first clock radio. In 1941, the company began producing watches for the US military and WWII alongside other American Brands like Hamilton and Waltham.

Throughout its history, Bulova continued to innovate and expand. In 1960, the company Introduced Accutron, the first electronic watch, which provided greater accuracy than mechanical watches. They continued their partnership with the U.S Government through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration AKA NASA and the U.S. Air Force.

Bulova was vital to NASA with the use of Accutron timekeeping devices in over 40 space missions. One of the most prominent being Project Vanguard which were the first  U.S. manmade satellites to successfully orbit around the earth.

In 2008, the Bulova Watch Company was acquired by Japanese multinational conglomerate, Citizen Watch Co., Ltd. Today, Bulova continues to produce high-quality timepieces, including both mechanical and quartz watches, as well as clocks and accessories.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The previous owner of this watch purchased this watch from a business friend who worked at bulova for some time.

The condition of the case is great, the case does have hairline scratches with only noticeable dings on the 1 o'clock lug and at the 3 o'clock side of the case.  The faux wood bezel insert looks great with only a couple of scratches at 9 o'clock and, what appears to be, a paint stain at 10:30.

It is worth noting that the case has patinated into a darker gold tone compared to the bracelet.

There are also 2 faint scratches on the acrylic crystal which can be polished off at the will of the buyer.

The bracelet is in immaculate condition with only slight patination at the end of the long side of the bracelet. Most likely due to use.

It appears that the original bracelet was swapped at some point for a new Bulova bracelet but it is correct for this model.

The warranty papers are completely intact but are not filled out. This was a common occurrence in a lot of jewelry stores and still is to this day and due to this, there is no real way to verify that these are the original warranty papers.

It is worth noting that the inner and outer box, as well as the papers and hang tags are correct for the era. With all of this, and the word of the previous owner, we can confidently assume the packaging is original to the watch.
